Cosa Nostra, the menswear brand
Never given a seat. Built our own table. Cosa Nostra is a small menswear house that sells a handful of recovered garments a season through a private archive, in limited runs of twelve per size, to a table of members that started with six chairs.
What we make
Eleven files. Shirts: the Lino Privata in washed cotton-linen, black or white, and the Riviera, a boxy short-sleeve pinstripe in black, white or grey. Knit polos: the Capri in a fine waffle knit with an open collar, in black, cream, charcoal or khaki, and the Genova in rope cables, in grey, black or cream. Trousers: the Milano Prestige, a high-rise fine-rib pleat in ivory or black, and the Rapallo, two deep pleats each side and a wide, full leg, in dark grey or black. Outerwear: the Modena, a cropped faux-suede jacket in oxblood, and the Torino, a knee-length single-breasted overcoat in black, grey or camel. The Porto slide in black leather with a leather sole. Under them, the base every subject wears: the Nero tee in heavyweight jersey and the Nero trouser in wool-blend twill. Every garment is made in China to our specification and inspected before dispatch; the fabric, construction, fit, care and origin are written on every file, and we do not print a logo on anything.
Why an archive and not a shop
The site at cosanostr4.com is built as a private archive. You walk through the arrival, meet five subjects, dress them in the garments and buy the look on the body that resembles yours. It is a menswear store that behaves like a story, and the story is the reason the garments look the way they do: Monte Carlo at midnight, Lake Como at dawn, one table, six seats.
The archive is not connected to any organisation that shares its name. Cosa nostra means our thing. Ours is clothes.
Twelve per size
Every garment is cut in a run of twelve units per size. The count is shown on each file and falls with every order; when a size reaches zero it is closed, not restocked. It is the opposite of a drop calendar and it is what keeps the pieces rare on the terrace.
The seat
Members hold a seat at the table for US$25 a month: thirty-five percent off every garment, every drop 48 hours before the public, the sealed files of the archive, a member card with their number. Six seats were reserved at the first table. The rest are taken one at a time.
