Old money style for men, the Mediterranean way

The old-money aesthetic became a trend and immediately became a costume: loafers with tassels, sweaters on shoulders, a polo with a crest. The version that predates the trend is simpler and quieter, and it lives on the terraces of Como and Monte Carlo rather than in a catalogue. It needs three garments.

Old money style for men, the Mediterranean way

Rule one: fabric over logo

Nobody at the table wears a name on their chest. Quiet luxury is fabric you can feel from a metre away: washed linen, a fine-rib trouser, a leather sole. The Cosa Nostra archive carries no visible branding on any garment. The only mark is the file card in the box.

Rule two: two colours, one contrast

Black over ivory. That is the whole palette. A black linen shirt over ivory pleated trousers gives the eye one line to follow, the waist, and nothing to argue with. Add a black leather slide and the look closes. The white shirt over black trousers is the same rule inverted for a different hour.

Rule three: fit that moves

Old money never looked tight. A relaxed body, a high rise, sleeves rolled to the elbow, a trouser that breaks once on the shoe. The subjects in the archive range from a broad build to a tall lean one and wear the same three files in five sizes; the site lets you dress each of them so you can see the fit on a body like yours before you choose a size.

Rule four: buy fewer, buy the run

Twelve per size. That is the number the archive makes of every garment, and it is the opposite of a fast-fashion drop. A limited run is not a marketing line here; the count is live on every file and falls with every order. The old-money wardrobe was always small. Ours is numbered.
