Leather slides for men, worn after dark

The slide is the most misunderstood shoe in menswear. Worn with shorts it is a pool shoe. Worn with a high-rise trouser and a linen shirt it is what the subjects wear to dinner. The difference is the leather, the sole and the fit.

Leather slides for men, worn after dark

Leather sole, cut-out upper

A rubber slide is for wet floors. The Porto slide has a leather upper cut with a single open band across the foot and a leather sole, so it sounds like a shoe on stone and looks like one from across the room. Black, always. A tan slide is a holiday; a black one is an evening.

Fit: true to size, wide feet go up

Sizes run EU 40 to 46. Measure the foot from heel to longest toe, standing, and read the insole length on the file: 26.5 cm for a 40, 30.5 cm for a 46. Wide feet take the next size up, because the band across the foot is leather and will not stretch the first week. Subject 01 wears a 43.

The trouser break

With a slide the trouser must not touch the ground. Turn-ups help; so does a hem that ends at the ankle bone. The Milano Prestige trouser is cut with four-centimetre turn-ups for exactly this shoe. No sock. If the weather argues, wear another shoe, not a sock with a slide.

Care

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from salt water, which dries the leather and lifts the sole. Twelve pairs per size were made; the archive does not restock a file.
